Sony to target non-core gamers with PS3 next year

We reported a while back that Nintendo had plans to reach out to a wider audience with their 3DS by creating games that were catered for the non-core gamer, and now it seems that Sony will be adopting a similar stance with their PlayStation 3 console for 2012, and much like Nintendo they will not lose focus on their core-gamer market.

The reason behind this move is apparently due to pricing. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s CEO Jim Ryan spoke out in an interview by saying that “on [the] PS1, PS2 the vast majority of the business that we did on both those platforms was done at the sub £129 price points. Now we’ve only got to £199 in the UK a couple of month back so you can see there’s still a lot of PS3’s potentially to be sold.”

Granted the PS3 is a lot cheaper now compared to back when it was first released, but unfortunately that can’t be said about the Blu-ray games that gamers will have to buy to play on their consoles. So for all those non-core gamers out there, it looks like Sony has something planned for you guys next year, and you may want to keep an eye out for that!
