Acer announces 10.1″ Tegra 2-powered A200 tablet

At a time when most OEMs are gearing up for quad-core and the Tegra 3, Acer has gone ahead and quietly updated their Iconia line with the A200, a Tegra 2-powered 10.1″ tablet. Many may be wondering why the company is going ahead with a product that doesn’t iterate very much from their successful A500 tablet released earlier this year, but the proof may be in that very fact: the A500 is a low-cost Honeycomb alternative that attracted buyers to its robust build quality and full-sized USB ports.
The A200, as we showed you last week in a leaked promo video, has a 10.1″ screen, 1GB RAM, either 16 or 32GB internal storage and a 2MP camera on the front. A 3260mAh battery rounds out the specs for a solid 8 hours of battery life. There is a full USB port as well as a microSD card for up to 32GB of extra storage.
At 12mm thick, it’s not exactly the belle of the ball, but if the price is low enough this could be another relatively successful entry-level tablet for Acer.
Oh, and some bad news: the A200 will launch with Honeycomb and be upgraded to Android 4.0 as soon as it becomes available. Whether that is this year or next year remains to be seen.
No current Canadian launch dates or prices, but we’ll let you know as soon as they become available.
