Acer’s 10-inch Iconia A500 always played second fiddle to the more popular Asus EeePad Transformer, but it was still a very popular device. The company has made an Ice Cream Sandwich release schedule official, citing April as a time period. Similarly, the smaller-sized 7-inch A100 will receive an ICS update around the same time.
Both versions will come with the Acer Ring launcher, which adds quick-access shortcuts to the homescreen, much like in the Honeycomb browser. There will be an improved weather widget, and quick app shortcuts from the lock screen.
As with any Ice Cream Sandwich update, there are going to be a number of usability and performance improvements, along with upgrades to all the core Google apps like Gmail, Gallery, Browser and more. The camera app is also going to be improved to support taking photos while recording video (pretty cool!).
Earlier this year, we took a look at the Acer Iconia A501, a 3G-enabled version of the 10-inch tablet from Rogers. No word on whether that version will be upgraded, but we’ll let you know when the updates starts rolling out.
