Sony's Tablet S claimed a 26 per cent share of the Android market in October
Sony has revealed its Tablet S Android tablet claimed a 26 per cent share of the Android tablet market in October making it the top selling Android tablet for the month.
The company did admit, however, that its wedge-shaped slate didn’t do so well over the Christmas period against Samsung’s Galaxy Tabs, Asus’ Transformer Prime and even RIM’s QNX-based BlackBerry Playbook which has been heavily discounted due to previously poor sales figures.
The positive feedback from consumers should mean we’ll be seeing more Sony tablets in the near future.
Sony’s two Android tablets from last year were good at following contemporary trends of dual core processing power and good quality displays.
If Sony keeps in-step with tablet trends emerging this year this could mean the next tablets from the company will sport quad core processors and next-generation display technology.
One thing Sony certainly has going for it is its ability to produce distinctive and interesting-looking tablets amidst a sea of clone slates, we wouldn’t be surprised if this contributed somewhat to the increased consumer interest as there are always those looking for something different.
Sony's Tablet S may well gain more appeal fairly soon as the device will be gaining an upgrade to Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 in Spring this year, alongside its stable-mate, the clamshell Sony Tablet P.
